Goddess of the Sea Choker - Mermaid - Paint and Glue

Step 1: Place your brass Lady Face piece on your brass shell, then bend the lady face till it fits the shape of the shell perfectly and set aside.

Step 2: With a soft 1/4 inch flat edged watercolor brush called a (bright), paint a medium thin layer of Metallic Taupe on to the surface of the large brass shell, let dry for at least one hour. You can also use a round brush or any brush that will give you the desired look.

Step 3: Next, starting at the bottom ruffled edge of the shell and moving towards the top, paint a layer of Metallic Blue Topaz, feathering out the paint so that it fades into the Metallic Taupe before it gets to the top of the shell, and let dry for at least one hour.

Tip: You may want to thin the paint for this layer with a little water.

Step 4: Next, starting again at the bottom ruffled edge of the shell, paint a layer of Metallic Amethyst just along the edge only, then using a dry brush, feather the paint till it disappears into the blue, and again let dry for at least one hour.

Tip: You may want to thin the paint for this layer with a little water.

Note: If for any reason you do not like your paint job after it is complete, get a stiff brush, hold the piece under very warm running water and scrub. The paint should come off easily.

Step 5: Now apply a final coat of water based clear sealer, and again let dry at least one hour.

Note: Once you have applied the sealer it is extremely hard to remove, so make sure you have the desired look before applying.

Step 6: Next mix your 5 minute epoxy glue, then turn your brass Lady Face so the back side is facing you. Apply enough glue to fill the main cavity but do not over fill. If you do it will spread over the entire piece when you put the lady in place. Next, when the glue is just barely beginning to set up, put your lady in place and carefully hold her till she dries. You can tell your glue is getting ready to set up when you touch it with a toothpick, and pull the toothpick away, it will make a thin hair like string.

Step 7: If you like the current patina on your Lady Face you should also apply a clear finish to her at this time. You can also allow her to age a bit more and develop a darker patina before applying the final coat if you wish.

Note: Once you have applied the sealer it is extremely hard to remove, so make sure you have the desired look before applying.
